On Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November, AIR DWINGELOO opens its doors to visitors from 12 to 5 pm.
Would you like to find out what happens at Drenthe’s newest artist-in-residence venue? You are warmly invited to get to know the current residents, Lorenzo Modestini and Jaime González Palencia. They are living and working here until 30 November inclusive.
AIR Dwingeloo is based at Galerie Dwingeloo. The gallery provides space for local and regional art activities, while also offering an inspiring place to stay for talented young artists with a connection to the North. Through exhibitions, residencies and other activities, the gallery aims to be a place that brings artists and visitors together.
About the artists
Lorenzo Modestini was born in Italy and grew up in America. He moved to the Netherlands at a young age to study at Academie Minerva in Groningen, graduating in 2022. His artistic practice moves between drawing, performance and activism. He approaches drawing as a direct, shared and materially honest event. During AIR Dwingeloo, he explores how work, encounters and alternative forms of exchange can reinforce one another.
After studying in Valencia, Jaime González Palencia completed his master’s degree at the Frank Mohr Instituut in Groningen in 2022. During AIR Dwingeloo, he is developing Intersection of a gilded fracture, which brings together the Dutch Beeldenstorm and the destruction of religious images during the Spanish Civil War. Jaime investigates how images are revered, damaged, transformed and repurposed over time.
AIR Dwingeloo was developed on behalf of owner Rien Meppelink by Jeanine de Boer (Kunstbureau ARTeria) & Renate Coenraad (Enarte, art consultancy and coaching). With two living spaces upstairs, the gallery offers two talented young artists at a time a place to live and work free of charge each year.
Artists can apply through the open call. More information is available at www.galeriedwingeloo.nl under AIR Dwingeloo.
