The first edition of the new nomadic art platform FRIS! brings together thirteen talented emerging artists from the North at Galerie Dwingeloo.
FRIS! is a new nomadic art platform that brings young artists from the North to distinctive places across Drenthe. From quiet and intimate settings to larger, unexpected encounters with art, each edition connects creativity with the region’s calm, space, nature and history. Its first edition takes place at Galerie Dwingeloo, beside Havezate Westrup.
The exhibition presents work by thirteen artists who completed an art degree in Groningen during the past ten years: Jhonie van Boeijen, Marianne Brouwer, Kamilė Česnavičiūtė, Luna van Duursen, Eirik Jahnsen, Lieve van Loon, Tirza Mafi, Anne Mensinga, Abiha Naderi, Olivia Niuman, Bas Schippers, Elise van Staveren and Katayoon Valamanesh.
FRIS! aims to grow into a meeting place for artists, art lovers and collectors: somewhere to discover and acquire work, build networks and spark new creative ideas. The initiative was developed by Jeanine de Boer of Kunstbureau ARTeria and Renate Coenraad of Enarte art consultancy & coaching. Its launch also marks their thirty years as entrepreneurs in the arts.
A walk-in evening takes place on Thursday 10 September from 5 to 8 pm. The official opening is on Friday 11 September at 4 pm, when art collectors Ger van Dam and Wilma Kuiper, owners of MALcollection, will give a short introduction to collecting contemporary art.
